Khersones Snail non-stop 5 - International Ceramics Festival
We don’t know exactly when man first took a piece of clay into his hands, felt its plasticity, energy, warmth and realized a need to turn it into one of the usual articles surrounding us today. It may have even been an earthen image of the master himself (the analogy is obvious). But this is not so important. What is important is that from that moment up to now ceramics – one of the most ancient of all arts – inevitably accompanies our life with utmost unobtrusiveness. Epochs and artistic styles change, but modest earthenware that has never aspired to be on the top of the hierarchy of fine arts continues being the real constituent of artistic processes. It is in ceramics that two seemingly incompatible essences are realized: archaism and the present, it is ceramics that unites plasticity and plastic and three-dimensional characteristics of the sculpture, colour and picturesque variety of painting, it is in ceramics that the most daring artistic ideas were tried and perfected, it ceramics that develops and puts into practice the newest techniques it is ceramics that makes our life warmer and refines the world around us, and finally, it is ceramics that often gives us the first appreciation of beauty and our first experience of arts. And it is ceramics that reveals the ancient secrets, brings the echo of past epochs to us.
The warmest, the most familiar and humane of all forms of art – ceramics is the theme, the idea, the dream and the hope of this festival, the festival is designed to display its diversity, actuality, the sources and new horizons. |
